Rome is the ideal red apple. It is round and brilliantly red, with smooth, slightly juicy, pure white flesh. The Washington Apple Commission calls Rome the “baker's buddy” because its distinctive flavor gets richer as it bakes.

Rome apples are not only famous for their looks — they have excellent storage qualities, too. The apples are picked in October and store until March.

This apple originated in Rome Township, Ohio prior to 1848. There are many cultivars available including Rome Beauty and Red Rome.
